Sewing machines.
1 industrial sewing machine, approx. US$ 900.-; material such as scissors, needles etc., approx. US$ 200.-
The furniture, the weaving frames and the kitchen equipment should be available this year and installed in the community centre. They should then be ready for use.

Children.
Continuation of the provision of medical care for all 800 children, approx. US$ 2'000.-

Construction of a simple accommodation.
For ecotourism, for scientific study groups and for volunteers. This project is intended to provide work for the indigenous population and to counteract the emigration from this high Andean valley. The locals have an enormous knowledge of the workings of Nature and are predestined to be guides in the Sangay National Park, which is adjacent to Alao. This inherited knowledge needs to be preserved! Approx. US$ 35'000.-

School Alao Llactapamba, approx. US$ 10'000.-.

  • REGALO intends to carry out building operations to convert the present totally unsuitable accommodation into a schoolroom which is worthy of the name.
  • The "school kitchen" is at present a dark hut roofed with the local grass. Inside, the teachers cook on an open fire for about 150 children. It will now be rebuilt simply but with all essentials.

  • Drinking-water Facilities.
Before any decision can be made about providing facilities to other very isolated villages, detailed investigations need to be made because of geographical considerations.

Tranca Shulpui - Comunidad de Flores.

  • Grain mill, approx. US$ 8'000.00 / 15'000.00
Several communities where grain is cultivated do not have own mills yet, e.g. Tranca Shulpuj, etc.
REGALO intends to help an isolated community living at nearly 4'000 metres above sea level with the purchase of a small grain mill. The price includes the mill itself, the motor, and modifications to the existing building. Evaluation of the specific site and a reliable estimate of cost will be carried out in advance.
This means that the indigenous population living in scattered hamlets will no longer have to transport their harvest along difficult tracks to Riobamba, where they have to pay a charge of US$ 5.- per sack for milling, on top of the expense of transport, leaving almost no money on which to survive, as it is almost impossible for them to earn anything.
  • School / Child care centre, approx. USD 10’000.00
A school and a child care centre (a house with two rooms), at 3'800 m above sea level, is under construction and will be finished at the end of 2007.
A small kitchen is already available. The infants are cared for in turn by the various women and girls from the village.
