Weaving frames and sewing machines.
Depending on the need and on the progress of the weavers, additional weaving frames and sewing machines will be provided.
- A weaving frame costs about USD 700.00 to 1‘100.00
- An industrial sewing machine costs about USD 900.00
Our goal is sustainable development. This is inevitably linked to additional costs for materials and for instruction.
Construction of a simple accommodation.
For ecotourism, for volunteers and for scientific study groups. This project is intended to provide work for the indigenous population and to counteract the emigration from this high Andean valley. The locals have an enormous knowledge of the workings of Nature and are predestined to be guides in the
Sangay National Park and in the surrounding areas of outstanding natural beauty. This inherited knowledge must be preserved! The building project is located at the entrance to the park, in the small community of Guarguallá Chico
(www.cordtuch.org.ec).
Approx. USD 45 - 50‘000.00.
The building is now under construction and is expected to be ready by end-October or early November 2009 in time for the next season.
Drinking-water projects.
- These are carried out in accordance with requirements. We have been approached by a number of communities, but detailed investigations always need to be carried out because of topographical and financial considerations.
Agricultural irrigation projects
An investigation is at present being carried out in Alao San Antonio to evaluate the feasibility of an irrigation system and to determine how its costs could be apportioned.
Water is extremely scarce in the dry summer months, and so the harvest is very poor in relation to the amount of work expended.
A complete irrigation system would cost about USD 80‘000.00 - 100‘000.00. This figure is beyond our means, and so the possibility of spreading the work over several years is being investigated.
